FETE DE L’ESTAMPE a French-based festival of print work has extended its reach to include UK studios this year. There’ll be conferences, performances, training sessions and open studios, with participating artists allowing the public to attend studio-based exhibitions where their engravings, lino and woodcuts and much more will be on show.
Denise Wyllie’s East Finchley open studio was an opportunity to share key elements of her creative journey and the aesthetic principles that run through her work. Her processes include lithography, screen-printing, lino and woodcuts. One noticeable feature was her expressive use of nature, in general, and trees, in particular, in her print, oil and acrylic work. Metaphors of dark and light, movement and expansion were a running theme in her landscapes.

The dark and light themes are explored again in her figurative portfolio. Also exhibited, was print work submitted by international artists of varying levels of experience and contrasting approaches and processes. The studio in her back garden and the two floors of her home seemed, nonetheless, curated with a certain balance and aesthetic symbiosis in mind.
