JUNE 20th was private view night for the fourth edition of the Young Masters Art Prize 2017 at Gallery 8, Mayfair. It celebrates contemporary artists whose work is in the spirit and methods of the Old Masters. Among the respected judges were Charles Saumarez Smith, Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Art and Melanie Gerlis, Art Market Columnist at the Financial Times and Editor-at-large at The Art Newspaper. You’ll notice the work of Dutch artist Isabelle Van Zeijl is prominently placed in much of the promotional literature and in the gallery venue window (also in title photo). Her Renaissance-inflected photography will fool many that it is classic oil on canvas, complete with a cracked and dated look. Some may recognise her work from the recent Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
