Middle distance runners seeking a festive challenge need look no further than the Christmas Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 5k and 10k run on December 13th inspired by none other than Mo Farah himself. The run finishes outside the Olympic stadium, and in case you need reminding that’s where he won Olympic golds for both those distances in 2012.
The event is organised by the Mo Farah Foundation which raises funds for the underprivileged all over the world. Set up by the Olympian and his wife in 2011 its humanitarian manifesto includes water sanitation schemes, education and youth sporting programmes. Needless to say, entry fees are the lifeblood of these schemes.
5k runners pay £20 and its £25 for 10k. If you are representing a charity you pay £5 more respectively. All runners who complete the course are rewarded with a snazzy Santa medal for that distance as well as a T-shirt, bottle of water, Lucozade and mince pies! Also your photo finish is available along with your finishing time, so Olympian runner or not you get the opportunity to dream you are one for the day and push for that personal best with a glorious finish outside the stadium in sights of the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower.
